MFLL Arabic Placement Exam

ArabicDepartmental placement*** for the Arabic Language Program is accomplished through the The Avant STAMP™ (STAndards-based Measurement of Proficiency) language test. The STAMP™ is a web-based test with four sections – Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking — with test items based on real-world, everyday situations. Performance on the STAMP™ is rated according to the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.

How do I take it?

STAMP™ examinations are being administered online during the COVID-19 pandemic. Send an email to to make a request to take the Arabic Placement Exam.

What do I do after the exam?

You will need to contact Dr. Drew Paul in the Arabic Language Program to advise him that you have taken the exam. Dr. Paul will then arrange to access and rate your performance on the STAMP™ and deliver the results to you so that you can register for the appropriate course.


Students who need interpreters, transcribers, or materials in alternate formats must contact Disability Services at (865) 974-6087 V/TDD two weeks in advance. Disability Services requires documentation in order to verify the disability and the need for the accommodation(s).
